The Grüner Veltliner Grape Varietal

Austria's white wine grape

The most important and most widespread grape in Austria. Formerly known under the synonym Weißgipfler, this white wine is the peppery favourite of the Austrian nation. It is often referred to just as GV or Grüner in the English speaking world. A universal, excellent food match, especially for traditional home cooking.

Approximately 15,000 hectares of Grüner Veltliner are cultivated in Lower Austria, Vienna and Burgenland. But this great vine is also vinified from Germany to New Zealand.
