Spain - The Largest Wine-growing Country in the World

The most captivating wines of the Iberian Peninsula

Spain is the world’s largest wine country by vineyard area, with nearly 950,000 hectares under cultivation. However, it ranks third in total wine production. The country boasts 17 designated wine-growing regions, with Castilla-La Mancha being the largest and Rioja perhaps the most famous. Wine is also produced in areas around Madrid, Barcelona, and even the Canary and Balearic Islands. With almost 5,000 wineries, or bodegas, spanning the country, more than 150,000 winegrowers primarily produce red wines such as Rioja and Tempranillo, though Cava and Sherry are also widely enjoyed.
