Ferré I Catasús Sonat de L'ala 2017, 0,75 L

Classic grape varieties such as Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon thrive particularly well in the Penedès and ensure wonderfully ripe and balanced wines. This Merlot comes from two different vineyards with vines that are at least 20 years old. The soils are limestone criss-crossed with a lot of clay. The vines grow particularly deep roots and so are well-supplied with water.

During the tasting, we noticed that the wine currently needs a lot of air to develop. After some time, it becomes a very balanced and multi-layered Merlot, and a sensation in this price range.

It's dark cherry red in the glass, quite dense and with delicate purple reflections, so still quite youthful. There are lots of dark berries on the nose, and it's a bit earthy with a nice touch of vanilla, plus a touch of leather, very pleasant, almost balsamic. On the palate, the wine starts out full of pressure, with beautiful fruit and a little vanilla. Firm but very ripe tannin is noticeably present, alongside dark fruits such as blackberries. A balanced acid structure makes the wine fresh. It already appears very mature, with a nice red berry and long finish, plus some leather and vanilla.
