New Zealand – The Southernmost Wine Region in the World

The country with one of the youngest and most dynamic wine-growing traditions

Viticulture in New Zealand is even younger than its neighbour Australia, as it was only when settlers arrived that they introduced winemaking to the two islands. Today, vineyards span approximately 30,000 hectares, with a third of them located on the North Island and two-thirds on the South Island. The South Island is home to Marlborough, the country’s most important wine-growing region. Sauvignon Blanc has become a standout success here, driving much of New Zealand's wine industry, but Pinot Noir, Riesling, and Chardonnay also play key roles in the country’s winemaking portfolio.
