Fattoria Mantellassi San Giuseppe Morellino di Scansano DOCG 2019, 0,75 L

San Giuseppe is practically the little brother of Le Sentinelle Morellino di Scansano Riserva, although, given the consistently high ratings, that's a bit of an understatement.

There's a lot of wine here at an extremely attractive price. Whether on its own or as an accompaniment to food, it's always a good choice. Don't be fooled by the price - you'll notice the 6 months ageing in barrels. Decant it and use a large glass so the aroma can develop better.

The 2019 vintage was certainly demanding, with a cold start to the season and a wet summer. However, there was lots of sun in autumn. It didn't harm the wine in the end, producing a great Morellino di Scansano.

In the bouquet, we find red fruits, wild berries and a hint of coffee. There's some herbal spice and, typically for this wine, a hint of mint. It's spicy and well structured on the palate. There's a very nice, fresh acidity paired with well-integrated but noticeable wood and very ripe tannins. Once again, this is a very drinkable wine. It's quite powerful, fun from the first sip and is really great as an accompaniment to typical Tuscan cuisine. One of our value-for-money favourites!
