Fattoria Mantellassi

Italy / Tuscany

Anyone who has met Guiseppe Mantellassi immediately understands what passion means. We had the pleasure to visit him at his winery in Tuscany and were enthusiastically drawn in by his Italian joie de vivre. Guiseppe's father was instrumental in ensuring that the Maremma, as part of Tuscany, enjoys an excellent reputation for wines, and with an excellent price/benefit ratio. The introduction in 1978 of Morellino di Scansano as a protected designation of origin can be largely attributed to him. The winery is secluded on a hill near Scansano, which can only be reached via a long gravel road. When we arrived there, we were greeted by Guiseppe's mother, who is over 70 years old and still keeps an eye on everything that happens at the winery. Clearly, the focus here is on family and we like that. Fattoria Mantellassi mainly produces red wine. Sangiovese is prominent, but the Alicante and Cabernet Sauvignon are also wonderful.
