Description

There's almost no slate rock in the vineyards of the Pfalz. One of the few places it can be found is on 6 hectares in the Burrweiler Schäwer vineyard, which is exactly where this fantastic Große Gewächs from Weingut Meßmer grows!

Every year, Meßmer produces an excellent wine that reflects the soil and climate. This is particularly noticeable in the 2019 vintage, which is a bit more harmonious and juicy than the previous year. It's still young, but the aroma is already prominent thanks to the slate soil. There's a lot of stone fruit, and the wine is still a bit closed, but it opens up more and more with time. It's fresh and complex on the palate, with prominent acidity and a lot of pressure. There's volume, despite only 12.5% ABV, and the wine feels powerful yet balanced.

This is a super Riesling that still has many years ahead of it, but is already really fun. It's just fantastic.
