Mas des Bressades

France / Cotês du Rhône / Costieres de Nîmes

The Costières de Nîmes area is practically the border between the Languedoc and the Cotês du Rhône, and the style of the wines can be classified as exactly in between. They boast the power of Languedoc combined with the mineral note of many Cotês du Rhône, and all at a price half that of many much further north.

Mas des Bressades is considered one of the pioneers in this area. Back in the early 1970s, Cyril Mares father, Roger, planted the first vines in what was then the no man's land of the Rhône Delta, from which the appellation Costières de Nîmes much later emerged, in 1989. Accordingly, the winery is considered a pioneer and benchmark in the region.

On just over 40 hectares, Cyril cultivates the Grenache, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Mourvèdre, Cinsault, Roussanne and Viognier grape varieties, producing wines with an outstanding price to taste ratio.

Cyril leaves the grapes on the lees for a very long time, up to 6 weeks, which gives the wines a very dense structure and longevity. We have known and valued this winery for over 15 years now and are always impressed with the high and constant quality with which he brings the wines to the bottle, regardless of the respective vintage. This is also shown by the consistently high ratings of the most renowned wine critics such as Robert Parker, which regularly exceed 90 points. If you look at the price of the wines, you really can't be anything other than impressed. The Top Cuvée Quintessence can easily be confused with a Châteauneuf-du-Pape when tasted blind, and for significantly less than half the price!
