Díaz Bayo Ribera del Duero - Majuelo de la Hombria 2011, 0,75 L

This wine is practically unavailable, but by sheer luck, a few bottles were overlooked by another retailer in Diaz Bayo's warehouse. After sampling a bottle and being convinced of its quality, we promptly secured the remaining stock. With only 700 bottles ever produced, very few remain, each uniquely numbered for traceability.

What emerges from the glass is truly exceptional. Contrary to the powerhouse Ribera del Duero stereotype, this wine exudes elegance and is now perfectly mature for enjoyment. Its deep, opaque appearance sets the stage, while the nose, characteristic of its calibre, offers notes of vanilla and hints of cocoa. Abundant dark berry fruit and a touch of tart cherry are ever-present. On the palate, it's taut yet balanced, with velvety, mature tannins. The lively acidity accentuates the red fruit flavours from the outset, imparting freshness. Layers of toast and coffee add complexity, alongside a juicy, spicy profile with mineral undertones. The finish is remarkably long, spicy, and satisfying.

This wine will appeal to aficionados of robust, mature Spanish wines who seek depth without overpowering intensity. Truly outstanding, but available only in extremely limited quantities.
