Baileyana Fire Peak Edna Valley Pinot Noir 2018, 0,75 L

Is Californian Pinot Noir even possible? It is, but not quite as you know it in Burgundy. It's a different expression, and that's how it should be.

This Pinot Noir is from the region around St. Luis Obispo. Around St. Barbara, Pinot Noir is not that rare and is produced at a high level.

The typical, light Pinot Noir nose has a lot of red berries, plus some minerality, and a touch of sulphur, which probably comes from the volcanic rock from the region. Wood is there, but not superficially, and it develops really nicely with a little air.

It's well structured on the palate, with lots of fruit, and the wood is more noticeable. Here, too, we find a subtle mineral touch. The fresh acidity and ripe tannins make the wine very lively.

The wood is really good, with nice vanilla aromas and great berry notes. A long finish accompanies the wine.

In all honesty - we didn't expect this, but it's a great demonstration of how fascinating the world of wine is.
