Description

Haideboden is a famous blend, made from different grapes depending on the vintage. The still young 2017 vintage combines 60% Zweigelt, 30% Blaufränkisch and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon.

Haideboden is the original name for the area around the community of Frauenkirchen, east of Neusiedlersee. Haideboden with an A is the original spelling and is only used by the Umathum winery. The grapes for this wine grow in vineyards to the west of Frauenkirchen. Depending on the varietal, they grow in slightly different soils. Zweigelt grows in ferrous pebble stone, Blaufränkisch grows where there is more lime and clay, and Cabernet Sauvignon is found in extremely barren soil.

Picked by hand and matured for 20 months in partly new barriques, the wine slowly reveals its full potential. On the nose, we find cherries and blackberries with hints of currants. On the palate, we find dark, ripe cherries with nuances of currants and light roasted aromas from the wooden barrel, alongside ripe, delicate tannic acid and a fine aftertaste.

Can be stored for another 10 years in optimal conditions and pairs well with hearty dishes such as beef, game and lamb.
