Scheiblhofer Winery Big John 2021

Big John is the brainchild created by the Scheiblhofer winery many years ago that has gained widespread popularity and achieved almost cult status. Johann (John) made a name for himself early on by winning record national awards. It is no coincidence that the label of this wine is adorned with the Great Bustard, one of the largest and heaviest flying birds in the world, which - like Big John - is of unique size and elegance. However, this wine often divides opinion among wine gourmets. The tenor is often that it is too mainstream and made to be drunk quickly.

No matter how you look at it, Big John tastes far more expensive that it costs. The full-bodied Cuvée Reserve of Zweigelt, Cabernet Sauvignon and Pinot Noir is very aromatic and accessible, extremely fruity and has a gentle caramel flavour. The powerful tannins with a roasted oak flavour (12 months in American barriques) is very pleasing and lies gently on the palate. Very enjoyable at first sip, without becoming too deep.

Pairs well with pizza and burgers. A welcome guest at any party.
