Why Are Grapes Healthy?

Why Are Grapes Healthy?

Grapes: Healthy vineyard fruits

Grapes shouldn't be underestimated. Thanks to their numerous vitamins, minerals and amino acids, they're very healthy.

Big health benefits in a small bunch

Like most fruits, grapes consist to a large extent of water and contain many important vitamins and antioxidants. They fight free radicals and protect cells with vitamin B. Due to their secondary plant nutrients, grapes have an extremely positive effect on the cardiovascular system and complexion.

Fibre has a positive effect on the immune system and digestion, and potassium and magnesium promote muscle and nerve function. Due to their high concentration of these minerals, grapes are also ideal for detoxifying the body. Detoxes cleanse the body from the inside out by removing excess fluid and harmful waste. For this reason, many people regularly detox with grapes. In order to fully exploit their health-promoting effects, do a grape detox for several days. For this, eat two kilogrammes of grapes and drink a lot of water or unsweetened tea every day for a few days.

Red or White - Which Grapes Are Healthier?

Strictly speaking, one variety is actually healthier than the other: Namely the red berries. Red grapes contain more antioxidants than their white counterparts. This is simply because of the red dye they contain. Because of this, red wine is said to have health-promoting effects.

Use grapes healthily in the kitchen

Grapes are in season in September and October. During these months, they're best enjoyed fresh. However, if you don't want to do without the taste in the following autumn and winter months, we have a simple recipe for a great grape jam here.

Grape jam:

  • juice of 1 lemon
  • a thumb-sized piece of ginger (grated)
  • 1 litre grape juice (red or white)
  • 500g preserving sugar

Combine all the ingredients in a saucepan and simmer for 5-10 minutes, stirring constantly. Pour into jam jars, close tightly and turn upside down to cool.

Grapes are healthy and so is the grape juice obtained from them - and fortunately we have more than enough of that at 9wines.uk ;-)
