Description
Opus Eximium, Albert Gesellmann's benchmark, has, as of the 2018 vintage, now been around for 31 years. This famous red wine blend is made from Blaufränkisch, Zweigelt and some St. Laurent. It was aged for 18 months in used small barrique barrels then stored for another 3 months in large wooden barrels until it's ready to drink.
On the nose, we find a delicate smoky-spice, underlaid with ripe blackberry fruit and a fine nougat touch. What the nose promises is delivered on the palate: Juicy, ripe cherries with fine tannins and fresh wild berry jam. The wine lingers in the finish and makes you want more. A real Austrian red wine classic that pairs well with beef, juicy steaks or heavily braised meat. The wine is also great without food.
It can be stored for another 10 years or more - but who would want that?
