Bodega Mas Rodó

The Penedès wine region near Barcelona is best known for its excellent sparkling Cava. The most famous Cava wineries are in the Penedés and can often be seen in TV commercials. Mas Rodó is quite different, though it still produces great quality wines. Almost all the wines are single variety, which is quite unusual in the region, and we find it all the more exciting.

The red wines in particular are prime examples of their respective grape varieties; we were particularly impressed by the Cabernet Sauvignon variants. It is not easy to find such ripe, fruity and yet complex wines for relatively low prices.

The winery is located in the hilly landscape of the Penedès region, where the vineyards are almost 500 metres above sea level. They supply top-quality national and international grape varieties. All the grapes are subject to strict selection after the harvest. Everything follows gravity with no pumping of the juices. The fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks, and wines that require barrel maturation are exclusively placed in lightöy toasted French barriques.

This is a winery that we discovered a long time ago and are happy to have finally added to our portfolio.
