Description

The 2018 vintage of this red was the winning wine at the Falstaff Blaufränkisch Grand Prix. Subsequently, the 2019 vintage reached 3rd place! That’s quite an achievement two years running!

A great value red. After a year in used barriques, it's ready to be enjoyed. And it's really fun!

Falstaff describes this charming Blaufränkisch as follows: “Deep dark ruby garnet, violet reflections, delicate brightening of the edges. Fine orange zest underlying red berry jam, a hint of sour cherries and a little fennel. Juicy, elegant, velvety tannins, fine dark fruit nuances, spicy in the aftertaste, sticks well, good food companion, secure potential."

By the way, the name Irrgarten comes from a winding piece of land in the vineyard in Deutschkreutz where this Blaufränkisch grows. There is an old cherry tree there, where the vines are set like a labyrinth around the tree, so that as a child Pia Strehn couldn't easily find the way to the cherries. She named the wine after the piece of earth where this wine grows and whence her memories of the "Irrgarten" (maze) spring.
