Domaine La Barroche

France / Cotês du Rhone / Chateauneuf-du-Pape

When talking about high-flyers in the wine scene, siblings Julien and Laetitia Barrot will inevitably come up. The roots of Domaine Barroche go back to the year 1703, and since the Barrot siblings took over in 2002 the reputation of the winery has risen steeply. This is a relatively short time to establish itself among the world's best, but the 2005 vintage was rated with 100 points for the first time. What a sensation! It didn’t stop with this one rating; now they regularly get top ratings. Domaine La Barroche is now considered one of the flagship businesses in Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Despite the many top ratings, the wines have remained at a very fair price level, even the absolute top wine "Pure", which repeatedly wins the highest rating, plays in a comparatively moderate price league. Due to the limited area and the very low yield of above-average old vines, the wines are in great demand and accordingly rare. Vines of ages up to 120 years old grow on the barren and stony soils, and the oldest Grenache vineyard for the "Pure" yields just 13hl/ha.
