Lirac is one of the up-and-coming wine regions located opposite Châteauneuf-du-Pape in the southern Rhone of France. Some believe that Lirac wines offer the same quality at half the price due to their lower profile. While this isn't far-fetched, it's important to take a nuanced view.

In the glass, the wine appears dark red and very dense. There's a noticeable presence of wood on the nose, which we appreciate as it adds leather and vanilla flavours to the wine. Exciting notes of violets, wild berries, and blueberries further whet the appetite for the first sip.

The 2021 Lirac AOP Rouge from Saint-Roch boasts power, finesse, and a good dose of minerality. Typical of the region, it features Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvèdre as the dominant grape varieties. Due to the summer heat and the winemaking process, the acidity is rather restrained but present, providing a freshness that benefits the wine tremendously.
